In time for Veteran’s Day…
If you haven’t already, check out the fantastic article written by Stephanie Harbaugh of The Record Herald about S.D. Sawyer and the writing of her novel, Prelude to Reveille: A Vietnam Awakening!
Harbaugh captured the essence of Sawyer’s novel through direct quotes,
“I want this book to honor and pay tribute to all Vietnam veterans and their families…”
“When combat veterans greet each other, a look of shared loss almost too great to bear often passes between them…Almost half a century since the war ended and that look still surfaces so easily in them that it haunts me.”
“I want them to know they are appreciated and valued for what they did in Vietnam…These men were called baby killers and spat on by their fellow Americans upon arriving home. It was sad to see them come home and be treated with such disdain.”
Sawyer spent the day at Blue Ridge Summit’s 3rd Annual Mountaintop Community Fall Fair and Art Show, signing books and sharing her story.
